As I get older, I've started to worry more about my skin. I had a terrible bout with acne when I was in high school, but grew out of it - hopefully my kids will have an easier time than I did. But, I didn't want to look at my own face when I was growing up, let alone take care of it, which likely contributed to the problem. As I got older and started to be able to bear to look myself in the mirror, I realized that I should take better care of my skin.
Priorities for me were first and foremost, not causing more issues. This meant I needed a moisturizer that was enough to keep my skin from drying and a sunscreen for the day time, but absorbed quickly and didn't feel greasy. I also wanted to make sure it was non-comedogenic so it wouldn't cause more pimples and blackheads than I already had. And, on top of this, I hate lotions that smell - Aveeno facial lotions are great but the scents are not particularly manly... the ones that are scented are scented with Ode de Grandma, and smell like an old lady's perfume. I tried Clinique for Men but it's expensive and felt greasy and thin.
I used a lot of Kiehl's Facial Fuel SPF 15, but late last year, I went looking for another moisturizer, one that absorbed a bit faster and felt less greasy and had a bit higher SPF factor. What I found is that most of the moisturizers over SPF 20 felt too heavy to use on my face, and either felt greasy and didn't absorb quickly or left me looking shiny. I tried a bunch out and ended up really liking a sample of Jack Black Double-Duty Face Moisturizer SPF20.
Jack Black is a indepedent US company, founded in the year 2000. Curran Dandurand was a 17 year veteran of Mary Kay and decided to fill the void in men's cosmetics and skin care by creating a line of products designed specifically for men. I first sampled Jack Black in Nordstrom - most mid-range to high end retailers carry it, but I usually buy from Amazon, since I generally remember that I need more moisturizer at around 11pm at night.
I usually buy the 8.5 oz size - it's not cheap at $48 but it lasted almost 10 months, which is pretty good. The pump bottle dispenses a fairly small amount of moisturizer which is good, because a little bit goes a long way - I tend to use 6-8 pumps and got a LOT of mileage out of the first bottle I bought. It's a UVA/UVB SPF 20, and it's the highest SPF rated every day moisturizer I could find that didn't feel heavy or greasy. And, my face feels great, and stays less greasy than without it.
